Tonic Herbal Guide

 Alfalfa – high in calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, vitamins B2, B3, B8, B12, C, D, E, K

 Alfalfa is great for regaining or maintaining health, and a good tonic  for the immune system and nervous system.

 Horsetail – high in silica and calcium

 Horsetail helps strengthen bones and connective tissue and very good tonic for the kidneys.

 Nettles – high in chlorophyll, iron, and vitamin C

 Nettles strengthens and supports the whole body.

 Parsley – one of the richest sources of vitamin C; high in vitamin B and potassium

 Parsley makes a good tonic for the kidneys, bladder, and liver.

 Oatstraw – high in calcium, silica, and vitamins A, B1, B2, K

 Oatstraw is a good tonic for the nervous system.

 Red Raspberry – high in iron and zinc

 Red Raspberry makes a good tonic for the female reproductive system.

 Peppermint – high in vitamin E

 Peppermint is good for nausea, intestinal problems, and motion sickness and a good tonic for the nervous system.

 Red Clover * – high in calcium, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B12, and silica

 Red Clover is a mild tonic for the nervous system and is also associated with cancer prevention.

 Thyme – very strong antiseptic; antiviral and antibacterial

 Thyme is good for colds, flu, congestion, cough, bronchitis, and a good tonic for the respiratory system.

 Lemon Balm –  relieves stress, tension, anxiety, and depression

 Lemon Balm makes a good tonic for the heart and the circulatory system, is good for the disgestive tract, and soothes bowels.

 * Caution: do not take if on blood thinner
medication

 

Herbal Syrup

  • Use 1 ounce of herb to 1 quart of water: Over low heat, simmer the liquid down to 1 pint
     
  • Strain the herbs from the liquid
     
  • To each pint of liquid, add 1 cup of honey (or other sweetener)
     
  • Warm honey and liquid together.  Mix well.
     
  • Bottle, label, and date.  Refrigerate.
     
  • Will store for months
 

Gingered Honey

  • Grate 1 part fresh ginger to 1 part honey.  Mix well.
     
  • Store in jar with a tight fitting lid
     
  • Will last for months if refrigerated

Add to hot water, tea, beverage, or eat a spoonful.  Good for nausea, motion sickness, morning sickness, cold, flu, and congestion.
 

 

Herbal Vinegar

  • Collect fresh herbs (can use dry)
     
  • Fill a clean jar just below the brim with herbs
     
  • Pour vinegar over herbs.  Fill the jar to the top and completely cover the herbs (very important)
     
  • Take a piece of wax paper and cover the jar
     
  • Seal with a tight fitting lid
     
  • Label and date jar.  Keep in a warm dark place for 4 to 6 weeks
     
  • Strain herbs
     
  • Enjoy on salads, veggies, sauces, etc.
